Dr. Dakotah Lane
I was born and raised in Bellingham, WA and am an enrolled member of the Lummi Nation. While growing up I would help run my grandpa’s firework stand on and worked as a fisherman on my father’s purse seiner fishing for salmon in the Puget Sound. I went to University of Washington where I graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. During my time there I initially interned at IBM and AT&T Wireless, before being hired by AT&T to work as a Cisco Network analyst. But upon graduation I decided to switch careers and joined Peace Corps.
While working for Peace Corps, I served as a High School teacher in Malawi, Africa from 2003-2005. I helped manage a microcredit loan for a small fishing village to help increase the income of its participants. After completing my Peace Corps service, I attended medical school at Weill-Cornell Medical College in New York City from 2008-2013 followed by attending a Family Medicine residency in Halifax Family medicine residency in Daytona Beach, FL from 2013-2016. One of my more memorable moments during residency, was serving as a part of the emergency response team on the racetracks during Daytona 500 car races.
Since graduating I have been working as a physician and Medical Director at the Lummi Tribal Health Clinic which serves a tribal community of 5300+ and, along with a team of physicians, have led the robust public health response against COVID-19 including contact tracing and quarantine policies, participating in the Novavax vaccine clinical trial, & rolling out all three EUA approved vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson).

Executive Medical Director
Komal Shah, MD, FAAP
I am from a small town in western Massachusetts, born to parents who emigrated from India. I completed medical school at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and then pediatric residency training at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Drawn to the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and the opportunity to work at Lummi Tribal Health Center, I moved to Washington in August of 2018. I care for children from birth to young adulthood. It is a privilege to watch them learn and grow, and their energy and charm make it a joy to practice medicine. In addition to working in the main clinic, I provide medical services at the school-based health center at Lummi Nation School. Outside the clinic, I enjoy cooking, spending time with family and friends, and exploring local parks and trails with my husband, son, and our dog.

Zoe Taylor
I was born and raised in the New York metro area. I went to college and medical school at Columbia in New York City, where I ran the free clinic for patients who were uninsured. I developed a love of primary care and decided to come out to the West Coast for residency in Family Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle. In residency, I was the Vice President of the Residents and Fellows Physician Union-NW. I stayed at the University of Washington for an extra year to be Chief Resident, and then moved to Bellingham with my husband to work for Lummi in 2021.
I love taking care of families and patients of all ages, from babies to the elderly. I am passionate about reproductive and women’s healthcare including contraception, pregnancy care, and other procedures. I also work with patients to treat substance use disorders with medications including buprenorphine, and provide gender affirming care including hormones. I believe in the importance of having a primary care doctor who listens to you, understands that you know your body best, and treats you as a whole person. In my free time, I enjoy comedy and theater, as well as getting outdoors. I have absolutely loved working at Lummi and having the privilege to help my patients prevent disease, find diagnoses for their symptoms, and manage their chronic health problems. I look forward to continuing to partner with my patients and the Lummi community to help everyone achieve their health goals!

Jo Montgomery, ARNP
I was raised in the Iowa. My ancestors came from England and Ireland. I moved to Seattle in 1983 and worked at Seattle Children’s Hospital first as an RN and then at the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic doing primary care for 27 years. I have spent time doing rural medical work in Honduras and Nicaragua. When I was 11 and 12 I lived in KwaZulu, South Africa with my parents, helping them at a mission hospital. My sister reminded me, after starting here at Lummi, that after my dad retired, he worked part time as a doctor for the Meswaki tribal clinic in Tama, Iowa.
In 2004 my husband and I started a circus school in Seattle (sancaseattle.org) that is still thriving and serving people of all ages and abilities.
I have one adult daughter, 2 adult stepchildren, a step-grandson and a scruffy dog. We like to bike and hike, and I like to grow things in my garden.
I love helping others understand what is going on with their health or their child’s health, and am very happy to be part of the care team at Lummi Tribal Health Clinic.

Claudia Rocio Rey, MD, FAAFP
In 2013, I joined a local family medicine practice in Bellingham, Washington, where I delivered many babies and cared for young families from the Lummi community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I worked as the medical director at the Upper Skagit Indian Tribal Clinic before joining the Lummi Tribal Health Center medical team in 2021. As a family medicine physician, I am passionate about connecting with and caring for my patients and their families. I have a particular interest in women’s health, pediatrics, chronic disease management, and preventative care. I am honored and humbled to be trusted by my patients to be part of their lives while guiding them in their health and medical decision-making.
When I’m not working, I enjoy being a mother to my two amazing daughters, a daughter to my caring mother, and spending time together as a family cooking, traveling, and going for bike rides together.
Thank you for allowing me to be part of the Lummi community while caring for you and your families.

Dr. Laurie Weston
Hello, to the Lummi Community!
My name is Laurie Weston, MD and I am a Psychiatrist by profession. I was recently hired to help provide care at the Lummi Tribal Health Center.
Although I grew up and was trained in medicine on the east coast, my mother was actually from Ferndale. She was one of four generations in her family who farmed and taught school in this area. I heard about the beautiful Pacific Northwest my whole life! After living, going to school, working, and raising a family in several different states as I moved westward, I finally became a permanent Washington resident in 2010. Since then, I have felt that I have finally come “home.”
I have four adult children, three son’s and a daughter. My daughter was adopted in Arizona and is part White Mountain Apache. My family also includes five grandchildren, with another on the way. I love being a grandmother!
Activities that I enjoy include hiking, camping, water sports, horseback riding, birds, gardening, reading history (especially of this area), and volunteering.
I am very, very happy and honored to have been invited here to be part of your care community. I look forward to getting to know all of you and helping where I am needed.
