Imaging

Digital imaging, also known as x-ray, offers routine, emergent, and diagnostic imaging per provider evaluation and possible diagnosis. It is required to be seen by the primary care provider to determine if an x-ray is needed.  X-rays are a form of radiation and should not be ordered/performed unless necessary. For insurance purposes Some x-ray studies are necessary to justify further imaging, such as a CT scan (computed tomography) or MRIs (Magnetic Resonance Imaging).  CTs and MRIs are not offered at LTHC.  Your primary care doctor will refer you to a local Imaging group for either service, when necessary.

In addition to x-ray studies, the imaging department provides Retinal Imaging for Diabetic patients. Joslin Vision Network and IHS has provided LTHC with an innovative retinal imaging device to detect diabetic retinopathy vision problems early on.  The specialized camera, custom software and trained Image Acquisition Specialists evaluate patients for various stages of diabetic eye disease.  As part of a regular diabetes maintenance program, it is important to schedule an annual eye exam.  This important step can help determine if changes in care are necessary to prevent diabetic retinopathy which can possibly lead to blindness. Ask your provider about getting an eye exam as part of your annual diabetic screening.
